The Lowdown on Katie Leung
Source: Movie Magic

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, 18-year-old Katie Leung becomes the object of desire of the most famous boy wizard... and the onject of envy for millions of girls all over the globe! Every female fan of the amazing Harry Potter would love to have him looking at her with puppy eyes, but in Goblet of Fire, it is Cho Chang who makes his heart pound! Cho is a member of Ravenclaw and is a Seeker on their Quidditch team. Katie had never been in a school play before she auditioned for the role of Cho. As a matter of fact, her dad admitted to a local Scottish newspaper that she auditioned "on a whim." But it was much more than "a whim" that made the producers pick Katie - after all, she was up against 4,000 other hopefuls when the auditions were held. When Katie learned that she was going to be Cho, well, she admits she's still overwhelmed!

Tell us how you got the role of Cho Chang.
Well, my dad was watching the telly one day and saw a commercial for it. It said you had to be 16, have an Oriental appearance and have a British passport. I fit all the requirements, so my dad suggested we go down to London to try out for the part. I hadn't any acting experience, so I was a bit reluctant, but he insisted. The first audition involved taking a photo. A few weeks later, I went down to London for a drama workshop and they had gone from about 4,000 to 100 girls. We did a lot of improvisation with the drama teacher. We acted out scenes and played a lot of games and then it went down to the final five. I got called back for a screentest. It was basically the part where Harry asked Cho to the ball. We did that, and after that I got the part.

Where were you when you found out you got the part?
I was sleeping in bed, so it was really funny - when my mom called and told me, I didn't take it in. I was just like, "Yeah, whatever." And then I went back to bed. Then I woke up and I realized what she said! It was hard because I couldn't tell anyone for a while.

Whom did you tell first when you could?
My best friend - she was just ecstatic!

What is your favorite Harry Potter book?
I'd say the fourth book, Goblet of Fire, is my favorite. It's so action-packed and there are so many different elements to it - like romance and action and excitement and everything!
